2 Row Reversible Scarf

Have you been into the shop lately? I only ask because if you have you've seen me all bundled up while my mom is in t-shirts. I'm cold. All the time. I blame the fact that I sit down at the computer and click through ravelry all day (my next pattern is going to be for a mouse glove to cover up my cold mouse-clicking hand). And by "click through ravelry all day" I mean... updating the website and answering store email. If I were smart, I'd get my butt out of my seat and warm up a bit! OR I'd knit the coziest scarf possible and bundle up.

What? Winter's on it's way?

2 Row Reversible Scarf (with endless possibilities)
OR
Cartridge-Belt Rib (that's not really a rib)

Searching for a fun reversible pattern, I found this stitch. Barbara Walker spoke to me. She said, "It is close, non-curling, and looks the same on both sides." I listened and said, "That is AWESOME!"
Reversible, see?

Finished Size: 5" wide by 63" long, unstretched but lightly blocked
Materials: 2 hanks Malabrigo Merino Chunky, 1 pair size US 11 (8.00mm) needles
Gauge - 18.5 sts = 4" (or... 23sts = 5")
Good yarn substitutes at this gauge: Galway Chunky, Cuzco, Peruvia Quick, Sulka

CO 23 sts.
Row 1: K3, *slip 1 with yarn in front, K 3; repeat from *
Row 2: K1, *slip 1 with yarn in front, K3; repeat from * to the last 2 sts, slip 1, K1
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you're almost out of yarn. Bind off.

This "rib" doesn't really stretch or draw in like a real rib, though it has the vertical lines and fluff of a rib - it's super warm! It is found on page 21 of A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker.

Different gauges - use any of your favorite yarns by adding or subtracting stitches in multiples of 4 + 3 to get the width you want. If you need help with this - gimme an email info@sageyarn.com.

Striped variation - here's a swatch with two different colors. The bottom changes colors every 2 rows, the top changes colors every 4 rows:

Berroco Pure Merino on Size 10s

Have fun knitting!! Next up - a hat pattern from MOM! I mean, DEB!

I positively love this rib pattern. VERY warm. I need a new scarf and I found some old bulky weight yarn in my stash. This knits up so fast and just so cozy. Thanks for the pattern!

I'm making the swatch. I'm slipping the st purlwise. Is this correct?

Thanks very much.

OK I got my answer on Ravelry. It's purlwise. Happy to get started.

When slipping one at the end of the second row, is that also purlwise with the yarn in front or am I slipping knitwise?

Hi, love pattern, but mine doesnt look the same either, after first two rows, 3rd row do you still knit 3 first? Or start with slp one? If you knit 3 first it gives you a wide area before pattern, scarf looks unbalanced, please let me know, thanks linda

Do you have a pattern for a hat to match?

I love this pattern. Just 2 rows! It should look exactly like the pattern. Linda, just follow the pattern. Neither row begins with a slip st. Either knit 3 (R1) or Knit 1 (R2). All slip sts in pattern are slipped as if to purl. Don't overthink this!
